Swiss Guides

The Swiss Guides
Swiss mountain guides who came to Canada starting in 1899, and were employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Guides climbed the highest mountain peaks and participated in rescue work in and around the Golden area.

The Swiss Village was constructed one mile west of Golden, and was built to house the families of the guides, who continued to immigrate to Canada until 1955.
